Congratulations to SPIKE who just completed our raise + train program and is officially home with his parents!

Spike is out of our Rush x Delta litter and has always been the more reserved and submissive of all the puppies so he really needed to be matched with the perfect home that would be patient and understanding with him. I think he really hit the lottery with this one.

We can’t wait to see him at group class and continue to support and cheer him on in all of his future adventures!

Congratulations to Buddy and his parents for graduating the Savage K9 Novice board + train program!

Buddy’s parents were tired of getting dragged down the road when he would see people on bicycles, runners, other dogs…you get the idea and at home he was having a blast stealing dinner off the table and causing chaos!

All too often we see frustrated owners who say things like “I yell at him and tell him no and then he does it again!” Or “I tell her to stop and she just keeps doing it!”

The reason this happens is because you as a handler have failed to create an association to the word NO. Dogs don’t speak English. We must teach them through association and conditioning that NO will always be followed up with a correction or punishment.

This way you build a system of communication and understanding with your dog therefore strengthening your bond and your relationship.

It is never cruel to show a dog clarity. It is however cruel to get frustrated and upset with a dog for not doing something he doesn’t understand because you never taught him properly.

Miss Peaches is a female formentino cane Corso who has been in our raise and train program since she came to us at a very young age.

She has been properly socialized and given the best start possible in life with a solid foundation in obedience. She loves traveling, swimming, farmers markets and frolicking in any wide open space. She is friendly and sweet with a super personality and although she is a puppy still as you can see she is extremely well behaved even at the busiest farmers market with unruly dogs and people all around. She’s a phenomenal dog and deserves a phenomenal home but we won’t place her just anywhere. Having experience with the breed (or similar breed) and experience as a handler in general are definitely required when thinking about owning a breed like a Cane Corso.

Ahhhh the pinch/prong collar. Let’s talk about it.

The pinch/prong collar can be a legitimate and safe tool when used properly and is trusted by many dog training professionals.

Do NOT use a pinch during the teaching stage of obedience. It’s meant for later stages (conditioning, practice, re-training) and only if other tools fail typically due to lack of handler strength or the dog’s high pain threshold.

• Must be fitted correctly meaning it’s loose enough for an “on/off” effect. A tight pinch at all times = improper & harmful use.

Not recommended for:
• Basic obedience foundations
• Protection training (except with an experienced trainer)
• Managing dog-on-dog aggression

Bottom line: The pinch collar is not a shortcut. Used sparingly and properly, it can help in tough situations but misuse does more harm than good. Always seek guidance from a professional when considering using a pinch/prong collar for your dog.
